Bless me father for I have sinned. My heart is always moved which such sorrow every time I enter into the Sacrament of Reconciliation and have to say these words. I realize how many times I have offended God and failed to be Christ to him and to the People of God. And although I am filled with such shame for my thoughts, words and failure to be respond charitably in every situation; it is in being reconciled once again to God and to all his children that fills me with such hope and deep gratitude. For in crying out, “Lord, have pity on me”; he always is so gracious to heal this wounded heart and bring peace to this poor sinner. Our Lord is truly merciful and kind; he is filled with such compassion. The Father is moved when we come to him and beg for forgiveness and truly desire to amend our ways. He desires to bring us wholeness; to restore us back to the beauty we were created in; to embrace us – love us – forgive us – heal us. After hearing the words of Absolution and “go in peace your sins have been forgiven,” I return to the Lord with such joy and my heart sings, “Thanks be to God!” – The Sacrament of Penance is not meant to be a punishment but a gracious gift of God’s infinite love and mercy. Go to the Father; better yet run to him and let him heal and love your wounded heart. May the peace of Christ remain for ever in our hearts.
